Combining found photographs, Social Care records and her own images The Goans is Rinchen Ato’s tribute to Beatrix Goan.
When Trix learned she had six months to live she wanted to make a record for her family.
As a three month old baby she was removed from her mother under section I of the Children’s Act and placed into a succession of foster homes. Her father is unknown and her mother's origins are unclear, although it is believed she was Hungarian. Beatrix was mistreated in care. She had irregular and stressful meetings with her mother and there is only one photograph of them together. Deprived of contact with her child her mother Rosa Veress, like so many destitute immigrants, disappeared into the chaos of post-war Britain.
This limited edition book presents three generations who share the distinctive characteristics, uncovers previous troubles and attempts to find some links to the past.
